Recently, in Vung Tau City, PetroVietnam Technical Services Corporation (PTSC) signed a contract for the construction and supply of offshore wind turbine foundations for the CHW2204 project in Taiwan with Orsted Taiwan.
The CHW2204 project in Taiwan has a total capacity of 920 MW. This offshore wind farm is currently under investment and is expected to be one of the largest offshore wind projects in the Asia-Pacific region.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Le Manh Cuong – General Director of PTSC stated that the signing and implementation of this contract marks a significant milestone in the history and development of PTSC. It signifies a shift in mindset, transformation, and the expansion of the production model from single units to large-scale, mass production with a completely different closed-loop production cycle from traditional oil and gas.
This is the first time Vietnam has secured a major contract for the export of value in the field of offshore renewable energy. Winning and executing this contract not only creates a historical turning point for PTSC in developing new services, building reputation, elevating the brand, and putting Vietnam on the map of offshore renewable energy worldwide but also generates ripple effects and contributes to the formation of a supply chain for offshore renewable energy in Vietnam.
Mr. Le Manh Cuong pledged to Orsted’s clients that PTSC will make efforts in all aspects (from infrastructure investment, human resource training, system conversion, management capacity enhancement, and mindset change) to ensure the contract is completed safely, with quality and efficiency.
Mr. Jonas Bak Solhøj – Director of CHW2204 Project Development in Taiwan shared: As a global leader in offshore wind energy, we are delighted to collaborate with PTSC to develop the production of top-standard foundation structures for offshore wind turbines. This is also the first time that advanced suction bucket foundation technology is deployed in the Asia-Pacific region. This technology will serve as the foundation for producing reliable green energy in the decades to come.
According to the agreement in the contract, PTSC will produce 33 suction bucket foundation structures for the turbine towers. These components are environmentally friendly solutions using Orsted’s advanced design. The foundation structures will be installed at the Greater Changhua 2b and 4 offshore wind farms by the end of 2025.
The project is estimated to utilize 70,000 tons of steel and create thousands of jobs at PTSC, as well as for contractors within the supply chain.
