Around 4:10 p.m. on August 26, Cat Ba Island (Cat Hai District, Hai Phong City) suddenly lost all power. According to information from Hai Phong Electricity, the incident occurred on a 35KV line between poles 104-105, the section of electricity pole crossing the sea of Lach Huyen channel.
According to the functional forces, the initial cause was determined, because the cargo ship collided with the 35KV line, causing an interruption of power supply.
The leader of Cat Hai District People’s Committee said that the locality is coordinating with functional agencies to clarify and handle the case. It is expected that by the night of August 27, Cat Ba Island will be restored to power.
The representative of Cat Hai District People’s Committee also informed that the power failure greatly affected the business of service businesses, accommodation, tourism, and the lives of local people.
It is known that this is not the first time that Cat Ba Island has lost power because of a cargo ship accident that broke the power line. Before that, in 2017, a similar incident also caused the whole Cat Ba island to lose power for 2 days.
